The ’90s Rock Album That Changed Music History According to Dave Grohl

The Foo Fighters frontman and guitarist said he felt the album in question “was the beginning of some sort of musical revolution”.

Each decade in music brings a change in many ways, whether in sound, aesthetics, behavior or approach. It was no different in the 1990s, when many artists and bands sought to completely escape what was done in the eighties.

Although he began his artistic career in the 1980s, Dave Grohl is one of the great representatives of the 1990s. It was in 1991 that the then drummer came up with the Nirvana, a band that revolutionized rock and, why not, music as a whole. With the death of the lead singer and guitarist Kurt CobainGrohl created the foo fighterswhose success extended to the point of becoming one of the few rock groups formed after the eighties to still fill large arenas and stadiums with their shows.

With so much experience, Dave knows what it’s like to change the world with his music. Therefore, in a 2021 interview with the presenter Jools Holland (via Igor Miranda website), the Foo Fighters and former Nirvana member proved to be a good source by highlighting an album that, in his view, changed the course of that segment: OK Computerthird studio album by radioheadreleased in 1997 and responsible for presenting songs like “Paranoid Android”, “Karma Police”, “Lucky” and “No Surprises”.

Ok Computer by Radiohead (Disclosure)

OK Computer it’s a pivotal moment not just in Radiohead’s career, but in music history. I honestly felt like it was the start of some kind of musical revolution. […] I think that record changed the landscape of popular music for years to come.”

In addition to sharp lyrics criticizing consumerism, reflections on social alienation and notes on emotional health, OK Computer stood out for its inventive sound. Whether in the technical aspect, with different production techniques, or creatively, by adding influences especially from progressive rock, the disc became Radiohead’s best-selling work, with 2.5 million copies in the United States and 1.5 million in the United Kingdom. United.

Radiohead even better live

Dave Grohl’s praise for Radiohead isn’t limited to what musicians do in the studio. For the Foo Fighters frontman, the band led by Thom Yorke (voice and guitar) is even better onstage.

“And they are still one of the greatest live bands of all time. The song ‘Paranoid Android’, for example, is not quite like the album. But it gets even better because it’s happening right now.”

It’s been a while since Brazilian fans have been able to witness such magic live. Radiohead performed in the country for the last time in April 2018, with dates in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, both with Soundhearts Festival. Before, it only came in 2009, to perform in the same cities and also with a traveling event: Just a Fest.
