Dear Mama: The Saga of Afeni & Tupac Shakur, a Hulu documentary, promises to explore the rapper’s relationship with his mother

In a rare interview with the channel The Art Of Dialogue (via NME), he pointed out that he was persuaded by the director Allen Hughesbut who was not warned about the content of the production.
The documentary explores the rapper’s relationship with his mother, Afeni – Black Panther activist. The title references the track “dear mama,” in which tupac calls the biological father a coward for not being present during his upbringing.
garland highlighted that he even turned down the first offers to participate because he feared that his lines would be taken out of context.
“Allen Hughes [diretor] asked me to give an interview. He didn’t tell me anything about ‘dear mama.’ He also didn’t tell me much other than what it would be about. tupac. I denied it at first. I didn’t want to do interviews. Every time I did an interview, it was taken out of context,” she said.
He spent two hours talking to Hughes for the project, but declared himself to be “disappointed” with the cuts that appear in the documentary: “I didn’t like it, to be honest with you. It was more about something else than about tupac. If I knew what it was about ‘dear mama,’ I might still have, but probably not.”
