Spotify should have tab for songs made by AI, says Grimes

Grimes also denounced copyright laws and praised the use of artificial intelligence

Grimes gave a controversial opinion on songs made using artificial intelligence. For the singer, Spotify and other streaming services should have a section just for tracks of the type.

Asked about the need for the original artist to consent to the reproduction of their voice with artificial intelligence in the UTOPIA Talks podcast (via NME), Grimes stated, “I think it’s good to have consent. I wouldn’t particularly mind, but I think thinking about respecting people is good. If they don’t want that… It’s creative control. So you need to be open to it.

“I think there are systems that can make things a little easier. We want a petition for Spotify… You know, it has your top tracks, your new albums, releases and features. If they made a section for AI, specifying that it’s not the artists themselves releasing it would be less confusing and QA would be easier,” he continued.

About copyright laws, Grimes he had already made his opinion clear in an interview with Jaguar: “Copyright is shit. I don’t think art belongs to anyone.” On the podcast, she added: “Why shouldn’t everyone have the right to use their voice? It sounds cool and exciting, and beautiful things can come out of it.”
