Partnership arose from an unusual invitation from Portugal to Braga via Instagram; track released this Friday (16) will be part of Braga’s first EP
Known for his work in humor, Rafael Portugal has a side dedicated to music that not everyone knows. Owner of compositions such as “Te dar a Flor” and “Dona da Pista”, he can now be heard in a new song – this time alongside the singer from São Paulo Braga with the release of the single “I”.
The track, released this Friday (16) by Braga, “talks about that moment in the early morning when you wonder if anyone else is awake”. It adds to the already solid work of the singer, who in 2022 gained notoriety with the singles “Te Vi Dançando” and “Três”, adding more than 3 million streams on Spotify.
This time, however, Portugal signed the composition, which, enchanted by Braga’s work, sought him out to do a duet. A Rolling Stone BrazilRafael tells how the contact happened:
“I received a video from Braga and immediately became a fan. Of the voice of the compositions and of the person he is. So young he is so talented. I like to compose and I spoke of my admiration for him and asked him if he wanted to compose with me. I felt his vibe and put a little of mine, this composition was that. I didn’t sit down to think about the story as it came out, I felt this story already imagining how it would be sung by Braga.”
Braga also commented on the partnership – and the surprise of receiving a message from Rafael Portugal on Instagram, inviting him to sing along:
“I received a message from Rafael Portugal on my Instagram, calling me to form a partnership, we didn’t know each other yet and I thought the lyrics were too cool! Rafael is as good with words as he is at making us smile. I was very excited about the invitation.”
For Braga, in addition to the participation of Portugal, “Eu” also marks a novelty in his career: it is the first track that he signs alone as a producer. The invitation, according to him, opened the perfect opportunity to put into practice this, which was already an old wish of the musician:
“This release is a milestone in my career, considering it was the first song I produced by myself. I always liked simple productions, and when I received the lyrics for ‘Eu’, I saw that it would be a good time to put my desire to produce into practice. I believe the result was very good, it is something I want to do more often.”
Already available on streaming services, “Eu” should be part of Braga’s first EP, scheduled for release in July 2023.
For Portugal, the relationship with music is an old passion – which, if it depends on him, should continue:
“I love music. Since forever, my house has always sung about everything. From the sertanejo on the tape that my mother plays to sit and have a beer, to the gospel. I learned to play the guitar and soon the desire to compose lyrics took over me. Joy power is sharing this moment with Braga.”
