MC Katia A Fiel, one of the pioneers of funk, revealed this Monday 19, that she is unable to walk due to complications from uterine cancer. Though benign, the myoma caused kidney failure which left her weak.
In a video posted on social media, the 47-year-old artist showed the exams, showed her swollen leg and explained that she was being treated through the Unified Health System (SUS).
“A year ago I was admitted to the hospital and a mass appeared in my uterus, and the doctors said it could be cancer. .
The operation was scheduled for this week, but has been postponed.
“My job is funk, I have no other resource. My husband works with me, my family ends up giving me a little bit here and there. I came to explain to you why I’m missing from the stage. I’m taking care of my health. Who can help me with something…”, he asked.
Who is MC Katia
MC Kátia emerged on the funk scene in the early 2000s. At the time, she was a single mother and worked as a general service assistant, but her music, especially the hit “Ata Vai me Pegar”, gave women a voice in the communities .
Kátia’s story demonstrates her resilience. After the success of the song “Cabeça pra Baixo”, she had an accident in 2008 and was away from the stage for three years. Subsequently, she dealt with depression resulting from the end of a relationship.
Kátia resumed her funk career in 2020 and participated in the music video “Rainha de Favela”, by Ludmilla, together with other pioneers of carioca funk, such as Tati Quebra Barraco.
