Vocalist explained that many young artists are not doing exactly what led his former band to stardom.
Formed in 1991, the Oasis it took him three years to finally release his debut album, definitely maybe. From then on, the band led by the brothers liam (voice) and Noel Gallagher (guitar) has become one of the most relevant on the planet, with more than 90 million records sold, sold-out shows all over the world and a series of broken records, especially in his homeland, the United Kingdom.
In Liam Gallagher’s view, the secret to all this success was precisely in the period between 1991 and 1994, when the group was still “nobody”. In an interview with BBC Radio 2 (via Far Out), the singer highlighted that the intense schedule of concerts in small nightclubs in England helped to build an audience and prepare everyone for future opportunities.
They even decided to prioritize the stage over the press and other forms of dissemination. Liam understands that many artists are looking to do the opposite these days, something questionable in his opinion.
“We still reached the kids without being in the magazine because we were doing shows. That’s what a lot of people have forgotten, you know? Oasis didn’t get big because of some people on the radio or some people in a magazine who hyped us up. Oasis grew because we went out and played, we played every night and we reached the kids that way.”
The singer made it clear that he does not reduce the importance of the media. However, according to him, the stage is sacred.
“Obviously the press coverage helps a little bit, but we always reached our audience because we were doing what we were supposed to be doing. As for these bands these days, none of them want to get in a van and play a show.”
And Oasis come back, Liam Gallagher?
In the current situation, the Gallagher brothers are not going to escape questions about the Oasis reunion. In 2009, the band ended activities after a final fight between Liam and Noel, who spent much of their career publicly at odds.
The vocalist is the one who is most willing to return with the group. However, the guitarist made it clear that he never received a phone call with the proposal. Therefore, during the same interview with BBC (via the Igor Miranda website), Liam revealed that he tried to contact Noel several times, in vain.
“Our boy has already been asked several times to reunite the band, but it turns out that this time he wants it when he releases an album. The way I see it, that’s not going to happen. He split the band up on his terms and I’m going to put them back together on mine. I’m a reasonable person, but I’m also very friendly with the universe and I have my ways of making that happen. One day he will call me.”
