Artists like Fontaines DC, Amyl and the Sniffers and Primal Scream are part of the group that pressures country in response to the conflict in Gaza and Policies in Palestine
More than 400 artists have decided to geo-block their works on the streaming platforms in Israel in response to what they classify as genocide in Gaza, ethnic cleaning in the West Bank and apartheid within Israel.
The movement No Music For Genocide He gathered these musicians in an initiative that seeks to press the country through the cultural boycott.
Participants include Massive Attackwhich became the first group of a major (Universal Music Group) to publicly announce the removal of your music from Spotify in the region. The list also includes Faye Webster, Ark, Japanese breakfast, Mike, King Krule, Fontaines DC, Rina Sawayama, Timini, Kelela, Amyl and the sniffers, MJ Lendeman, Kneecap, Mannequin Pussy and the veteran Carole King.
The organizers explained that the initiative is “a cultural boycott asking artists to remove their music from the streaming platforms in Israel.” According to the official statement, any artist can participate contacting the website nomusicforgenocide.net.
The movement is part of a broader cultural mobilization that has gained strength in recent months. More than 4,000 filmmakers signed an open letter promising not to work with Israeli institutions considered “genocide accomplices”. Parallel, personalities like Brad Pitt and Joaquin Phoenix are producing The Voice of Hind Rajabmovie about the war in Gaza.
Among the musical genres represented are indie rock, hip-hop, electronics, folk and alternative pop, demonstrating that adhesion crosses different segments of the music industry. Artists from various countries participate in the initiative, including musicians from the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan and Australia. If you are an artist in Brazil and want to join the cause, just enter the website of the No Music For Genocide and follow the step by step.
The action represents an extension of the movement BDS (Boycott, divestment and sanctions), created in 2005 by Omar Barghoutiwhich for two decades has been promoting economic and cultural pressure against Israel for its policies related to Palestine. Unlike traditional boycotes, the No Music For Genocide It specifically uses the geo-block tools of digital platforms to create geographic access restrictions, taking advantage of technological resources that were not available in previous movements.
