Attention! The following contains spoilers for the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds episode “Spock Amok”. Read at your own risk!
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds recently premiered her latest episode for Paramount + subscribers , and for some it may have been a rather unexpected journey. “Spock Amok” is a comic episode and not a genre Emigrate often addresses unless we are talking Star Trek: Lower Decks, which would have been fitting given the title riff of Looney Tunes classic “Duck Amuck”. This particular change of tone won’t be the only time the sci-fi series makes a leap into less familiar territory, as co-showrunner Henry Alonso Myers exclusively revealed to Gossipify a sneak peek of what’s to come in season one. . .
I spoke to Henry Alonso Myers before the series premiere Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and while talking about “Spock Amok”, he learned of the process the writing team goes through when writing the episodes. Myers talked about what he and the team are going through, teasing two exciting and atypical episodes that fans haven’t seen yet:
One of the things we would do when designing each episode would be to look for a pattern and say, “Well, where did you try that on Star Trek? So we’re trying to do our own version of that. Sometimes we take it and see up. How far can we push it. Can we make it bigger? Can we make it crazier? I hope our fun version of Star Trek is even more fun. It prepares a very scary episode. I hope our scary episode, our horror episode, will be extremely scary.
star Trek He certainly tried to use horror elements from the television side and even adopted some really creepy body horror images for the next generationis “Conspiracy”. strange new worlds facing the horror makes me think there will be another episode involving the Gorn, which we learned from Christina Chong.
We have a great adventure game, and it’s like a really different interesting tone, but it’s absolutely 100% Star Trek, and I think anyone watching the original series would watch it and say, ‘Yeah, I got to see how they could do this. Does this make sense. The thing is, we’re trying to make a version you wouldn’t see at the time.
I am also incredibly excited about everything that falls under the “adventure game” umbrella within star Trek universe. I can only imagine what it entails with just that as a description, but it’s probably going to be funny how these episodes come in. I’m pretty sure making non-playful love is a scientific impossibility.
“Spock Amok” is a great example of EmigrateIts whimsical nature and its ability to adhere to any type of narrative that applies. While comic trends weren’t used much in live action Emigrate In recent times, genre outliers still have a solid place in the franchise. Myers mentioned a few other examples of comic episodes mentioning one of the things he finds wonderful about the franchise as a whole:
If you watch “Trouble With Tribbles” or DS9, they have this episode “Looking for par” Mach in all the bad places. “These are very funny episodes. They are written for that era that way, but they are funny and one of the things that I find it wonderful about Trek is that it is malleable. It can be used to explore so many different genres.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds He has already explored many different genres in the first season and will continue to do so throughout the season and beyond. It’s good to know that Henry Alonso Myers and other members of the creative team consider the franchise to be so malleable, as it might encourage them to move on to see what other unexpected premises. Emigrate can get close.
Speaking specifically of “Spock Amok”, Henry Alonso Myers noted that there was a very specific reason behind wanting to do this episode right now. Myers explained the purpose as well as providing a comedic episode and how he sends a message to viewers:
It was very important to me personally, and I co-wrote this episode, to do a comedy episode because, you know, especially after the episode that preceded it, which is a very dark, very common and creepy episode. People have died. We wanted to show the extent of what we were trying to do, and you will see in the second half of the season that we will continue to do so. It goes in many different directions, but to us they all feel like Star Trek.
Preach it to the stars, Henry Alonso Myers! Even if you don’t like horror, comedy or games, you still are star Trek totally.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds it’s just past the middle of the first season. The good news is that while there may not be many episodes left, the second one is already in production and will bring even more excitement with Paul Wesley enters as James T. Kirk . Until then, there’s a lot to get excited about in the weeks to come, as the show continues to prove it. it’s a great entry point for others.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds release new episodes to Paramount + (opens in a new tab) Thursday. Once Season 1 ends, this subscription will be the key to streaming much more. Emigrate upcoming shows in 2022 and beyond.
