Lucas Bidran: meet the Brazilian drummer who makes a career in the USA

Specialized in drums and music production, Lucas Bidran is one of the outstanding names having participated in the pre-grammy production

Encouraged by older colleagues on the street, Lucas Bidran fell in love with music at age 7 thanks to a live DVD by the band Raimundos who watched repeatedly. “While other kids watched Disney movies over and over, I watched the Disney show. Raimundos.”

It was thanks to the band’s DVD that Lucas I wanted to learn to play the guitar. However, his fate had other plans.

One day I went to a guitar class and my teacher didn’t come, so they offered me an experimental drum lesson and at first I did well. I thought the guitar was a bit complicated, I had a hard time learning it, so I never dropped the drums.”

In a childhood filled with clips that played on the MTV, Lucas recalls that at first his family members were reluctant to take drum lessons.

“Man, my parents were sure I was going to become a plane pilot, because I was also a bit addicted to planes. I was always looking at models and asking to go to the airport, but I had a very strong connection with the drums and it became something very natural for me.”

Like this, Lucas became a musician. During high school he was in bands, performed in talent shows and from the beginning, knew what career path he wanted to pursue. Along the way, the drummer discovered another passion, the recording studio. He even studied Radio and TV and liked the environment, but music was always his main vocation and he dropped out of college and started to focus on music production.

“I love being a musician and I even imagine myself in other jobs, but what I want is to continue doing what I do. At the beginning, I had some doubts about my career, what I wanted to do in music, you know? But I realized that what I I really wanted to be a studio musician.”

Brazilian music producer owner of five Grammy and responsible for producing bands like Charlie Brown Jr, CPM 22,Titans,scaleneamong many others, was one of the main promoters of Lucas before starting his international career.

“We closed a production with the little lamp to produce my old band, the Honor. The idea was for him to produce our record and in the end, he called me to work with him as a studio assistant.”

I was always very curious, I was the “annoying” one in the studio. So I was very careful with everything, I asked about all the processes and wanted to know how everything worked and offered help, then he started calling me to help with other recordings. I ended up becoming a hired musician.”

After the experience of working with one of the great names in Brazilian music production, Lucas he was invited to Los Angeles by one of his music teachers to participate in a “music fair”, a kind of exhibition of equipment for musicians and producers. “My teacher Jean encouraged me to visit this fair, he said it is one of the most important in the world.”

I stayed 15 days in Los Angeles to visit this fair. I went crazy, I could talk about California for over an hour, I fell in love with the city and it clicked for me. I decided I wanted to live there. That’s when I discovered the Musician Institute.

Lucas so he decided to pursue an international career. Encouraged by Professor Jean and the producer Small lamp.

At the University you learn a lot about everything. I studied drums for a year and a half, so I graduated in drum performance, but I also learned about music production and I left there with a huge baggage to work in any area of ​​music.”

Like this, Lucas followed an international career as a hired musician. The function opens up possibilities for working with great music stars. In 2022, he participated in the stage direction of the Pre-Grammy Party.

“In the pre-Grammys I worked with Stanley, drummer for Stevie Wonder. My job is to keep an eye on the drummer who is on stage, the profession is called ‘drum tech’. Besides, as a hired musician, I also participate in tours, concerts , recordings with other artists.”

For those who work at what they love, perhaps the most difficult question to answer is about their hobbies. Lucas he said that he didn’t have any, that he liked to play the drums and make music, in his spare time maybe watch a series. However, during the interview Lucas quoted his band, the Jaw Talk.

I have a band with some friends of mine. We don’t do shows, we only make music because we like to do it, we record and release it without commitment. If it rolls, it rolls. We even found out that they recently used two of our songs in the series The Good Doctor.

Lucas pursues an international career and reports that her favorite part is being on stage on tour.

“My dream is to play with Gorillaz, I swear to God. If I get close to them and do anything I’ll be satisfied. It seems far away but it’s one of my favorite bands, when I came to Los Angeles I never imagined that I would work at the Grammys, so maybe one day I’ll play with the Gorillaz.”
