Young Kiss Fans Don’t Care About Ace Frehley and Peter Criss, Says Gene Simmons

Vocalist and bassist statement served to dampen spirits regarding the possible return of the former members to the band’s farewell concerts

many fans of kiss would like to be able to watch the original line-up of the band together on stage one last time. After all, the masked group will conclude at the end of the year the farewell tour end of the roadand although I still have Paul Stanley (voice and guitar) and Gene Simmons (voice and bass), the absence of Ace Frehley (guitar and vocals) and Peter Criss (drums and voice), since the beginning of the 2000s, is still felt by the public.

Interestingly, Simmons does not share this impression. In an interview with Linea Rock(via blabbermouth), the musician stated that the missing members are not so missed, especially for younger fans. The comment was made when, initially, the vocalist and bassist revealed that Frehley and Criss continue to refuse invitations to participate in concerts by end of the roadeven with the imminent end.

“For the older fans, the ones who have been around for 50 years, some of them want to see Ace and Peter. The younger ones never saw them, they don’t know. But the older fans wonder about Ace and Peter. Well, I I asked both Ace and Peter a couple of times, ‘Do you want to come over and play the encore? Do you want to do some shows?’ And they both said ‘no’. So I don’t know what to say about that.”

Despite this, Gene reinforces that former colleagues are welcome to participate in the shows they wish. Just let them want it.

“But they are always welcome. There are many other big stars, superstars, who want to get on stage and play a song with us at the final shows. [que acontecem em Nova York, no início de dezembro]. But we’re not sure about that. Maybe the best thing to do is end up the way we started: four guys with guitars. No keyboards, no synths, nothing. Just us playing.”

The breakup of the original Kiss

In 1980, Kiss had its first casualty in the formation: Peter Criss had his departure announced after the release of the album unmasked. Interestingly, he had not played on this album, nor on the previous one, Dynasty, with the exception of one song, “Dirty Livin’”. The relationship was quite tumultuous due to Criss being addicted to drugs, according to reports from his former colleagues.

The same happened to Ace Frehley in 1982. Although it appears on the cover of the album Creatures of the Night, the guitarist didn’t play a single note. It also came out amid addictions.

Both returned in 1996, after appearing a year earlier in the acoustic show for MTVwhich yielded the album and video Kiss Unplugged. However, the honeymoon didn’t last that long. In 2000, the group announced that they would be going on a farewell tour, Farewell Tour, but the activities were not closed. Instead, Frehley and Criss left the line-up again, in 2002 and 2004, respectively. The vacancies were taken over by Tommy Thayer on guitar and Eric Singer, who filled Peter’s post before his return in 1996, on drums.
