Skylar Gray sells collection – with Eminem and Rihanna hit – to pay for divorce

Skylar Gray sold her songs to ‘take off the weight of divorce’, not in exchange for hundreds of millions of dollars

Skylar Gray sells her music catalog to pay her legal bills after a bitter and difficult divorce. The singer collaborated on the famous singles of Eminem and Rihanna, “Love The Way You Lie” (2010), Diddy in “Coming Home” (2010) and Dr. Dre in “I Need A Doctor”Grammy-winning song in 2011.

In the last six years – since their last album, Natural History (2016) – she practically withdrew from public life and during that time, gray reached ‘rock bottom’, as he said in an interview with Variety.

gray talked about the process of rebuilding his library with a new album, the intimate and self-titled Skylar Graywhy he no longer wants to tour and his plans going forward.

The singer says that since 2017 she was in a divorce court case, so she was not allowed to open up to the press and fans about the latest developments in her career and personal life.

Unlike artists like Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, Shakira, Neil Young, Bob Dylan and Motley Crüewho have also sold their music catalogs in recent years in exchange for hundreds of millions of dollars, gray explains that the decision was only to ‘get rid of the divorce burden’.

Asked if skylar still feels the owner of musical creations, the singer replied that the feeling is not the same, but that she remains focused on creating a new musical collection and new opportunities.

They are still near and dear to my heart and yes I will always cherish them but it’s different now. Unfortunately, most of what I got for my catalog went to taxes and my ex-husband. [Risos] It’s like your life’s work, and then all of a sudden it’s like, “Okay, I have to deliver most of this.” But that was my only option.

Skylar Gray’s future

skylar defines the new music production as a catharsis of his own life, with many expressions and feelings he has felt over the last few years, including a lack of inspiration and purpose in making music.

I was feeling really down about my career and simultaneously while these things were going on, I got fired from Interscope, and I had a manager who fired me too, so I kind of hit rock bottom last year.

Finally, gray confesses to feeling again at the beginning of his career, to be learning again the mechanisms of the industry and its new style, in a more organic and authentic way, describing the journey as ‘revealing and a great confidence booster’. In this process, the artist even reveals that she discovered that she did not like to compose.
