‘The Blueprint 3’ and ‘The Black Album’ are now Double Platinum and Quadruple Platinum respectively
In the last week, the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) assigned a new post to jay-z. The album The Blueprint 3 (2009) reached the equivalent of 2 million sales, guaranteeing the Double Platinum record. already the The Black Album (2003) went Quadruple Platinum with over 33 million sales. With that, the rap legend became the first black man with at least ten Double Platinum solo albums (via People).
Despite not having defined herself as black, Mariah Carey is considered by complex as the first black artist to achieve the same achievement as jay-z, with 11 albums certified Platinum Doubles. She is of Irish, African-American and Venezuelan heritage, and has spoken about the pressure she is under to determine her own color.
Other singers that come close are Beyonce It is Whitney Houstonwho have six and seven Multi-Platinum albums respectively.
