A little over ten years ago, Dwayne Johnson earned a special reputation in Hollywood as a “Viagra affiliate”. Between Fast & Furious, GI Joeand also for Trip 2: The mysterious island, the actor has proven himself to be a formidable star for established film series seeking to rejuvenate, with all those projects grossing over $ 300 million at the global box office. This is a pretty impressive influence, and Johnson is now optimistic about his ability to bring that driving energy into the DC Extended Universe, starting with black adam and I hope to do many more in the years to come.
Promotion of the new trailer for black adam which aired just this morning, Dwayne Johnson attended a press event this week, with producers Hiram Garcia and Beau Flynn and director Jaume Collet-Serra, and was asked about his potential future as part of DC Extended Universe. From his response, it doesn’t look like anything is completely set in stone yet, but it also looks like he’s mentally committed to playing Black Adam for a decade or more. Johnson said,
I am 100% committed not only to Black Adam, but also to expanding the universe of Black Adam, the DC Universe. I’ve been an optimist from the start, so for me and for all of us here, all universes exist in our heads and we’ll all work hard to make sure we honor the mythology, but also give the fans what you want. to desire. And I listen, we all do and I collect everything they transmit. It doesn’t go through me, it doesn’t go through these guys.
In black adam, audiences will get a chance to witness the titular antihero’s origin story and watch him face off against members of the Justice Society of America, but it’s clear that Dwayne Johnson doesn’t see this opportunity as unique. The film is firmly rooted in the canon of the DC Extended Universe, and given the character’s ties to other major heroes in DC Comics history, it’s not exactly hard to see how Black Adam might be used.
The first thing that comes to mind, of course, is the longstanding conflict between Black Adam and Shazam, and Warner Bros. appears to be facing off now that they both have blockbusters coming out in 2022. Says Dwayne Johnson he has also spent years touting the potential of seeing his divine character take on Superman. Johnson talked about Teth-Adam being as strong as the Man of Steel, compared their superpowers, and even talked specifically about the two characters who battled on the big screen. Obviously, this is something the actor wants to happen.
Black Adam’s big-screen future will hinge on the box office performance and buzz of the solo film when it comes out this fall, but Dwayne Johnson clearly wants that comics character to be a part of your life for many years to come. He continued,
This is the beginning, hopefully, by crossing the fingers of a very long narrative road where Black Adam is now the jet fuel anchor that will propel and propel this universe.
Black Adam features a stellar cast plus Dwayne Johnson, with Noah Centineo, Aldis Hodge, Quintessa Swindell, Pierce Brosnan, Sarah Shahi, Marwen Kenzari, and more all involved in the madness. You’ll be able to watch the movie when it hits theaters around the world on October 21, and you’ll be able to keep up with everything that’s happening in the franchise using our next guide to DC movies.
