Elis and Tom, it was supposed to be with you debuts exclusively in Brazilian cinemas in 21 Septemberwith distribution of O2 game. The feature film had its first screenings in Rio 2022 Film Festival and go 46th Sao Paulo International Film Festival – in the latter, he won the critics award for Best Brazilian film.
In May 2023, the production was shown to major players in a market control to the Marché du Film From Cannes Film Festival, a major event in the international film market. The film was also through the Brazilian Film Festival in Lima (Peru), Brazilian Film Festival in Paris (France) and inside In Edit 2023 (Brazil).
Eli & Tom is the name of the album considered one of the most important in the history of Brazilian music. Registration took place at Los Angeles (USA), in early 1974, and the images were recorded on film by the team of filmmakers led by the director Robert de Oliveirameeting organizer. The original footage has been preserved since 45 years until they are restored AND remastered in 2018. It is these rare and previously unseen images that guide the music documentary.
Elis and Tom, it was supposed to be with you shows behind the scenes and all the drama and tensions that surrounded the recording of the album to the point where the project was nearly put on hold. In the end, however, the power of music prevails and leads Elis Regina, Tom Jobim and a group of talented young musicians to a masterpiece.
In the documentary the viewer is taken on a journey through time, participating in moments of conflict and also of pure joy, revealing intimate moments of the creative process and the extraordinary personalities of these artists.
The production is also an exciting reunion between the director and the artists and almost shot material five decades.
