Actress Mayana Neiva releases her first single in a bet on her musical career


‘E Agora’ is a way for the artist to look inside herself; an album with unreleased tracks should be released in the second half of this year

With more than 15 years giving life to different characters from theater, cinema and television, the actress Maya Neiva has decided to focus on another artistic universe: music. Maya just released the single And now?which is part of a larger project, an album which is being finalized and which should be released at the beginning of this second semester.

Taking risks here is one way of putting it. Maya, in fact, decided to give vent to an old desire. The actress had already sung a few times with the band Quimbara in the group’s presentations on the night of Sao Paulo. “It was a dream kept within me,” she explains. “I spent a few years living outside of Brazil and came back hungry to delve into my roots and what made me happy,” she continues.

It was during the pandemic that the Start it happened and Mayana decided to publish an author’s work. “For every beginning it takes a lot of humility and a bit of audacity,” she jokes. “As an actress, I always tell other people’s stories, so I turned inward.” Thus was born her new project, started with the launch of the audiovisual poster Paraiba women’s string.

The experimentation that started her singing career was directed and performed by her and recorded in the hinterland of Paraíba, her home state. The video, released in March, brings together, in addition to the actress, other women, all to celebrate her female ancestry, Latin and especially, North East.

Already And now? It is inspired by the Dakini (Sky Dancer) concept of Buddhism. The work speaks of the duality between the temporary and the infinite. “We are this temporary being, but it is divine. If I lose myself in this divine, I also lose the sacred in me,” he explains. That’s a little bit of what music explores. “It speaks of love in a broader way, of that love which is not only for the other but for our eternal face, for the divine in us and in everything”, reveals the artist.

From a young age, Mayana experienced life outside Campina Grande, the city of Paraíba where she was born. As a teenager she traveled to the United States, where she began her studies in the performing arts. After returning to Brazil, she also experimented with a modeling career, she went to Miss Paraíba and moved to Sao Paulo to invest in her life as an actress. She also lived in Uruguay and Argentina.

She says being away from her birthplace, crossing other places and cultures, helped her understand what really mattered. “It was very important to have lived in Argentina, Uruguay, United States, to work in English and Spanish … Looking from the outside helped me to understand the strength of the Northeast and to understand that the world is no different from there and that the Northeast is in the world », he celebrates.

Mayana explains the moment in her career and her decisions, making it clear that turning inward, towards her roots, also helps her want to go further. “The root gives you a stepping stone to the world,” she points out.

Next steps

For now, Mayana is simply happy to make her dreams come true. “I am now a happy person to find a new path and to share that happiness with people,” she says. Further on, the actress and singer plans not only to release an album, which will be full of Latin and Northeastern references, but also concerts. And, although she’s not the one she intends to her at the moment, she says she doesn’t give up on merging music and starring in future works. “I’m super open, but for now I feel safer directing and acting.”

He is currently shooting the series The end, based on the book by actress Fernanda Torres, in which she plays Milena. The series is directed by Andrucha Waddington And Daniela Tommaso and tells the story of couples over the course of four decades.
