Without a date reserved for metal, as Rock in Rio has done since 1985, the event becomes the night of the ‘black shirts’ – or almost
If there was a “metal day” at the festival The city, something stuck Rock in Rio since the first edition, in 1985, that day would be today. Not that there’s anything as programming-heavy as Iron Maiden, Saxon or Gojira, but compared to other nights this Saturday 9th equals tons of decibels.
- MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE CITY: How did your first weekend go?
One of the most anticipated shows alongside Bruno Mars it will be there Foo Fightersfrom the drummer turned guitarist Dave Grohl. The most Grammy-awarded North American band arrived at Rock in Rio in 2019 (its previous appearance at the same festival was in 2001). His latest studio album, Medicine at midnight, earned high praise from critics. But what should be included in the show’s repertoire are the hits My hero, Times like these AND Better than you.
The drummer is now Josh Freese, who took over after the tragic death of Taylor Hawkins on the eve of the group’s performance at Lollapalooza last year. It’s a “new cycle”, followers say. The band plays at 11pm, after the Yeah Yeah Yeahs show on the Skyline stage. Featuring Karen O on vocals, Nicolas Zinner on guitar, Brian Chase on drums and David Pajo on guitar, bass, keyboards and synthesizers, the group released its latest album, Cool It Down, last year. First, in Skyline itself, Pitty and Garbage play (see full list of shows below).
