The organizers of The city announced on Sunday 10th, in a press conference, that the festival will have its 2nd edition in about two years, in 2025.
New dates for Rock in Rio in a special edition for the 40th anniversary of the festival, in 2024. Fans of the event can now start preparing to enjoy the scheduled shows on 13, 14, 15 (from Friday to Sunday) and 19, 20, 21 and 22 September (from Thursday to Sunday).
“It was bigger than we imagined”
The official announcement of the next The Town was made during a meeting with the press and sponsors this Sunday, 10th, at Cidade da Música, in Interlagos.
“We didn’t expect to be welcomed so well and so quickly,” said Roberta Medina, vice president of the festival’s organization, justifying the success of the first edition, which ends this Sunday. “The public reaction was greater than we imagined,” she added.
Roberto Medina, creator of Rock in Rio and The Town, said that his feeling in promoting the first edition of the Sao Paulo Festival is the same as it was 40 years ago, when he created the Rio event.
“My family was persecuted by the dictatorship. And, at that moment, I wanted to see young people happy, just like I do now here in Sao Paulo. The world is very strange,” he said.
At the same event, the Medina family announced the 40th edition of Rock in Rio, in September 2024.
The organization also presented some numbers that they consider a “commercial success” of the event: almost 500 thousand attendees, 70 thousand beers sold, 300 thousand downloads of the official app and 146 hours among the most talked about topics on Twitter. Also according to the organization, 237 thousand people went to and from the event using trains, and 210 thousand people used express buses.
“It was a success, it worked very well,” said Roberta Medina. Mayor Ricardo Nunes, also present at the press conference, agrees. On the first day of The Town, the news Estadao showed problems in this operation.

According to the organization, ticket presales for Rock In Rio will begin soon. Details about the programme, times and which artists will come to the celebration have not yet been confirmed.
