Businessman Roberto Medina, president of Rock World and founder of Rock in Rio, announced that the festival will return to Rio de Janeiro in 2024 and that The Town will have a new edition in 2025.
The edition of Rock in Rio will take place in September as The Town, from the 13th to the 22nd, and will mark the 40th anniversary of the festival. To mark the anniversary, Medina said there will be other events, including a musical in Rio and Sao Paulo, as well as a new Rock in Rio Lisbon, between June 15 and 23, 2024.
The City 2025
The City, which concludes its first edition this Sunday (9/11), will return in 2025 in the same location, but with improvements. According to the organization, approximately 500,000 people attended the event. Around 237 thousand used public transport such as the subway and train, while 210 thousand opted for the express bus service. “We made history by hosting the largest music and entertainment festival in São Paulo. Ask me for more, because the next one will be much better and bigger. In the service, in the quality, in the artists,” said Roberto Medina.
A study by Fundação Getúlio Vargas revealed that The Town generated a total turnover of R$1.7 billion in the São Paulo economy. The occupancy rate of the capital’s hotels increased by 85% compared to the September average of previous years. For this reason, mayor Ricardo Nunes has expressed his intention to carry out renovation works on the circuit to increase the capacity of the public. “We have a space problem,” the mayor said.
Despite the success, there was no shortage of criticism for the overcrowding of the event, traffic difficulties and delays in moving between stages.
