Theodoro celebrates black love in his third and self-titled album

The singer and composer Theodore releases his third and self-titled album. In this project, aesthetics acts as a support so that, through black melodies, the artist frees her voice – sweet and precise – to sing black love.

“Talking and singing about love from the point of view of a black man is in some way having a dialogue with mine about what has been denied to us. Countless times I have been pointed out and read as tough. Others, in fact, have owed me be so as not to succumb. But I have allowed myself to be increasingly sensitive and vulnerable to everything that passes through me. This is my true essence. And it is in these characteristics, like those mentioned, which are often seen by society as a weak point for a man, that I find the fuel to continue transforming and also inspiring me.

I understand that this album is not premised on being a cure for something or someone, especially because all the songs are in the first person and were born from situations and relationships I have experienced. But if with its affectionate content we can be an antidote against some reproductions, I believe I can contribute to this conversation and transformation“.

“Theodoro” is the result of the collaboration with the trio A Timeline, whose research is dedicated to the investigation of the traditional music of mother cultures and its fusion with urban sounds, venerating the past, thinking about its expansion and integration with the future. Timeline consists of Kauê Caldas (drums and programming), Lucas Cirillo (harmonica, MIDI harmonica) and Vitor Arantes (keyboards and programming).

In total, the record contains 11 tracks which dialogue directly with mpb, r&b and jazz. One after the other, they are led, together with A Timeline, by Robinho Tavares’ bass, Mackson Kennedy’s guitars, Danilo Silva’s acoustic guitars, Yasmin Olí’s voice and Ricardo Braga’s percussion. Jota.pê makes a special appearance in ‘Entrelace’.

The songs that make up the work are guided by the roots of the guitar, nourished by the ancestral keys that act as the basis for the rhythmic and melodic arrangements, which combine sounds played live and programmed elements, creating acomfortable aesthetics to express affection in a sensitive and delicate way.

The album was born from a creative meeting. “Me, Xênia França, Timeline and some other composers got together in a composition camp. It was then, in the middle of a chat, she (Xênia) raised the ball… “Why don’t you make an album together? ” . That’s it, we understood that the inventiveness of A Timeline, added to the lyrics and music I had available, would bring us something interesting”, underlines Theodoro.

The album was recorded by O&O Studios and features sound engineering and mixing by the talented Frederico Pacheco, known for his work with Luedji Luna, Assucena, Romulo Fróes, Caixa Cubo, among other renowned artists. The master was created by Maurício Gargel, whose portfolio includes names such as Anitta, Criolo, Emicida, Liniker and others.
