João Marcelo Bôscoli commented on the theory that the singer died in a “conscious and determined” way in an interview with “Conversa com Bial”
The son of Eli Regina, João Marcelo Boscoliwas one of the interviewees of the Conversation with Bial last Friday the 15th, together with Beth, Tom Jobim’s daughter, and Roberto de Oliveira, director of the documentary Elis and Tom – It really had to be with you.
At one point, presenter Pedro Bial spoke about Elis Regina’s death, quoting a phrase attributed to producer André Midani: “Elis killed herself consciously and with determination” (Elis Regina died on January 19, 1982, at the age of 36 years. A cause of death disclosed was to overdose).
Bôscoli then commented on the statement: “I think his theory is very intelligent, but it is only a theory. I think it is a set of actions, of several things, several years of suffering, of abandonment, of being in an environment that she only has men, and everyone just wanted to ‘eat her’ in all directions. Elis didn’t kill herself, she died of anaphylactic shock. What she had wouldn’t have been enough to overdose on,” he continued.
“It’s a great sadness to see where the world was going and realize it. I agree that she felt a great existential void when she realized that there would no longer be a great album, in her opinion, to record.”
“She did what the Beatles did, but it wasn’t a band, it was a person. But it wasn’t done on purpose, it’s not suicide. Elis Regina, the singer, people can talk. But Mrs. Elis, my mother , you would never kill yourself with three children at home. Never”, underlined Bôscoli.
When asked how many times he had seen the film, Elis Regina’s son replied: “Once. I can’t watch it that many times… It also takes a lot out of me on an emotional level.”
