In his most recent visit to São Paulolast Saturday, 25th, the Guns N’ Roses played for more than three hours — three hours and 10 minutes, to be exact — at the stadium Allianz Parque. In a show of such length, it is possible to cover much of your own repertoire, as well as perform some covers. And that’s what the band led by the trio did Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan. Das 31 songs that formed the setlist, eight there were covers for songs by other artists. And some of them served as tributes to rock icons who are no longer with us. They were honored posthumously, so to speak, Ozzy Osbourne (Black Sabbath), Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver), John Sykes (ThinLizzy, Whitesnake, Tygers of Pan Tang) and David Johansen (New York Dolls). Ozzy, who passed away on July 22 of this year, had the most explicit tribute. THE Guns N’ Roses performed two Sabbath songs in sequence, “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath” and “Never Say Die”and at the end of the first an image of the Prince of Darkness was displayed on the screen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umdgNDuTPMk Scott Weiland, who left us in 2015, was remembered with a version “Slither”from Velvet Revolver. The band included guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan in its lineup. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8FIdw3sjCQ John Sykes, in turn, was honored with “Thunder and Lightning”by the Irish band ThinLizzy. The guitarist — who even auditioned for Guns in the 2000s — died on January 20, 2025, from cancer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXCM57IGkAw Finally, the legendary David Johansen, who also died this year, on February 28, was remembered with “Human Being”from the influential band New York Dollsprecursor of punk rock. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LowkbfvXKaI
