U2 changed the lyrics to “Pride (In the Name of Love)” to honor festivalgoers killed in Israel
O U2 changed the lyrics of “Pride (In the Name of Love)” to pay tribute to those who were present at a music festival when the venue in Israel was bombed. Bono changed the verse that refers to the death of Martin Luther King Jr.:
“Early morning, Oct. 7 / The sun is rising in the desert sky / Stars of David, they took your life / But they could not take your pride” from the desert / Stars of David, they took his life / But they could not take his pride” in free translation.
O Supernovafestival created by DJ Swarup – father of Alok —, was the target of missiles and shooting by Hamas, a Palestinian group. To date, 260 people have been declared dead in the event that took place 20km from the Gaza strip.
“Sing for our brothers and sisters, who sang in the Supernova Sukkot, in Israel. We sing for them. Our people, our kind people, music people. Playful, experimental people. Our kind of people. We sing for them,” he exclaimed. Bono performing at Sphere, in Las Vegas, last Sunday, 8th.

“In light of what happened in Israel and Gaza, a song about non-violence seems ridiculous in some ways, even a joke, but our prayers have always been for peace and an end to violence… But our hearts and our anger, you know where we direct you. So sing with us and for those beautiful young people at that music festival,” he added.
