O yu musickan experimental pop project, released the track “BURN THE BOATS” in collaboration with rapper Yung Buddha last week. The song can be classified as a musical experience, bringing together elements from different genres and styles, such as metal, drum and bass, rap and jazz. yuwho has been working on the song since last year, says that from the beginning the name of Buddha came to his mind.

In November this concept came to me BURN THE BOATS in the mind. I felt strongly that there would be a track with that name and for some reason the name of the song came to me. Buddha in the mind. We didn’t know each other yet, but LR Beats he had introduced me to his work a while ago and I sent him a message saying that there was one that was going to be with the Buddha. We only ended up meeting in February, when I had already produced the base with the Dan and the March.”

To get to the rapper, yu He tried, unsuccessfully, to build bridges with several friends. Things changed when Buda started following him on social media, at the time the track’s beat was ready, that’s when he was able to present the project. “It ended up being a very strong connection from an artistic point of view. I didn’t know he was going to sing in English at first. This came from him and surprised me a lot, especially the word games he made with my verses,” says the musician, who considers the choice something that raised the level of his work.”

The track marks the beginning of the release of the project’s new album, GRACIA MASIVAand features an unreleased version of the rapper Yung Buddha. Known for seeking an original aesthetic in the Brazilian trap scene, the artist presents his first song sung in English, marking a new era in his career. “My idea at the time was to write my lyrics in English, I thought it would better match the aesthetics of the sound and the message it conveys,” he says.

The music video for “BURN THE BOATS” is a sensory experience co-directed by yu It is Ramon Abreu. It incorporates both medieval and futuristic elements, transporting viewers to a dystopian reality. “A yu It has a very strong aesthetic concept, but it is always something very sensorial, intuitive. I tend not to overly rationalize the messages of things that appear to me. But it’s really crazy to see the finished work and feel like that was exactly what I wanted to convey,” says the musician.

Burn the Boats is about not having “plans B” in life, and right after I recorded it I had a lot of upheavals in my life and I had to really believe in my plan A. The clip is very symbolic because it materialized this plan A in a way that I would never have expected it to happen. It’s a great moment for us and it’s just the beginning of everything.”

Buddha he adds that the clip is the best visual translation the song could have, in his opinion. “I have never participated in a production of this scale, with this entire structure and I really enjoyed the result, it was incredible. The experience was very helpful for me as an artist too.”

The collaboration also extends to the world of fashion. The brands of yucalled So Damn Bright, and Buddha’s 7K are teaming up on a collaboration titled SO DAMN BRIGHT 7K, or “SDB7K.”
