Rock in Rio organizers are preparing a series of attractions to celebrate the festival’s 40th anniversary next year. The celebration will feature an immersive exhibition, a book of memories, a musical directed by singer Zé Ricardo, as well as a special tribute to New Year’s Eve in Copacabana.
The first ever celebration will be held in early 2024 to the sound of a symphony orchestra and drone show. The festival announced in a statement that the New Year’s Eve show “will shake the sand and light up the sky, with the iconic hits of Rock in Rio”.
The celebration will also include a mega interactive exhibition featuring pieces, objects and dynamics that reflect the history of the festival, as well as a book full of photos and interesting facts about the event.
Additionally, a musical about the festival will be shown in theaters in Rio and São Paulo under the artistic direction of Charles Möeller (“Chiquinha Gonzaga”). The show is inspired by the city of Rio, which will serve as the center for the narrative.

The festival itself will celebrate its anniversary by expanding the Sunset Stage with a megastructure 104 meters in front and 30 meters high. Now the venue will be the size of Palco Mundo, which will also have a new scenography with “selfie opportunities” and a “dynamic look.”
“It will be an edition of new experiences and stories, like the ones I hear in every new edition. We are part of the lives of thousands of people, just as the public is part of the festival. With each edition, the festival becomes better and in 2024 we will celebrate these four decades inside and outside the City of Rock”, said Roberto Medina, creator of the festival, to the newspaper O Globo.
Rock in Rio 2024 is scheduled to start on September 13th.
