Gilberto Gil rescues lost album recorded in New York in 1982; check out

Album was recovered in curatorship for ‘O Ritmo de Gil’, digital collection made by Google

A lost disk Gilberto Gil was featured in the largest digital collection dedicated to a living artist made by Google. Recorded in 1982, in New York, the unpublished collection was found during the process of curating and digitizing the materials for the museum.

Gil’s Rhythm celebrates the singer, with bibliographic information and the discography of one of the biggest names in Brazilian Popular Music. The environment has 41 thousand images and documents and a total of 900 videos and recordings about his trajectory.

The virtual museum was launched on Google Arts & Culture, and is available in English, Portuguese and Spanish, being the first retrospective of a live Brazilian artist on the global platform. The research started in 2018.

“The unprecedented retrospective on Gil portrays the life and work of this artist who is a symbol of Brazilian culture and the man surrounded by many other artists, friends and family. Gilberto Gil around the world will be able to access, just a few clicks away, the treasure that is their history”, says Valéria Gasparotti, project manager at Google Arts & Culture.

to the newspaper state of mines, Gil says he doesn’t remember what made the record not come out, but called the recovery of sound materials an ‘archaeological work’, which portrays ‘new museological possibilities’.

The former Minister of Culture also states that he intends to update the platform with the news he produces, overlapping productions and creating an original space for his legacy in art.

It wouldn’t be unusual if it were your own sieve to be the reason for canceling a sound that is still enjoyed more by the ears of curiosity. Signs of a time when everything that was kept or rejected in the past, and for whatever reason, becomes a valuable asset. This collection is part of this set [..] and it’s the end of a stage of my work
