Pabblo Vittar is one of the attractions of Micareta SP, at the Anhembi Arena; see other festival attractions
In just over five years of career, Phabullo Rodrigues da Silva has become the drag queen most followed in the world. Pabllo Vittar amasses almost 25 million virtual admirers, even beating the numbers of those who opened the doors of the drag artistic environment, the presenter and singer RuPaul.
Pablo she started her career with the help of friends, covering international pop hits and now she sings her hits in the biggest music festivals in the world – her schedule is full until the second semester. The singer has already made a number of shows in the United States and has started a series of presentations in Europe. And, this Friday, 17th, will be one of the highlights of the micareta SPwhich takes place in Anhembi Arena.
“Not long ago, I did a show at Lollapalooza in Argentina. Even though I was out of Brazil, the crowd sang them all, with that accent trying to speak Portuguese. It’s very surreal,” he says. Indeed, watching the exhilaration of Brazilians and foreigners is chilling. Pabllo is an immeasurable force.
By embracing the international market once and for all, Vittar launched the energetic follow me on March 31, the partnership sung in English with Rina Sawayama, one of the musical revelations most praised by specialized critics since the beginning of the pandemic.
The bet of the songs has a refined production and in the same high level of quality as the latest audiovisual which presented in the live show. I am Pablo.
Despite the success, the singer’s fans asked for collaborations with the most famous artists. Pablo he knows the paths he wants to take and takes advantage of the good phase of his career to invest in the international market.
“Of course, every time we go to the Internet, we always meet a lot of people who support us and the other way around. It’s respect,” he says. “They want numbers, views, seal, another seal and another seal and baby, that’s not it!”
The singer let her pop veins grow stronger on her first three albums, It will go wrong (2017), Do not stop (2018) and 111 (2019 and 2020), but a hint of regional music has always appeared in one production or another, with the help of its longtime partner, producer Rodrigo Gorky.
Against the tide of ready-made formulas for easy success, Pablowho was born in São Luís and grew up in the hinterland of Maranhão and Pará, saved his roots from the technobrega and launched Tropical beat in 2021. The album features reinterpretations of classics from his adolescence such as cravesby Eliza Mell, e It’s not a man’s roleby Banda Kassikó. “I’m from that school. I’m a pop cat, but I can’t deny my roots. I’m forrozeira, I’m from technobrega, I’m from Pará and I’m from Maranhão,” she says.
According to her, the album was a personal achievement. “These were songs that I listened to as a kid, these are songs that I listened to and dreamed of someday being on stage, singing. It is very honorable for me to take these rhythms to gigantic places like Lollapalooza and Coachella,” she says.
Mylla Karvalho, Joelma, Limão com Mel, Calcinha Preta and Aviões do Forró are some of the names that marked the youth of the pop star. She acknowledges that she now plays the LGBT + community which was not represented in these musical styles.
“I get a lot of messages from the North and Northeast from people who feel represented with my music. What I do is enhance the regional culture,” he says.
Pabllo’s sound has not gone unnoticed by one of the greatest artists of recent years. Lady Gaga invited Drag to join the remix album The dawn of chromatic (2021), and the Brazilian turned the runway Fun tonight in a forró anthem for the dance floor. “As a pop fan, I was honored by Gaga’s invitation to the remix. And another, she followed me on Instagram,” she celebrates.
Pabllo’s success took her to other avenues beyond music, such as the HBO reality show Queen Stars. The first national drag queen competition (there are 20 in total) is led by Pabllo and her friend Luísa Sonza; The episodes are accessible on the streaming platform from April 4th.
“It was a full month of recording, but it was fine and I laughed a lot,” he says. “I was very moved, because they sing drag and there are queens from all states and with different musical styles.”
According to Pabllo, she and Luísa did not always agree with the judges’ choices. “There have been days where we disagreed, but everyone (the contestants) is extremely talented. I hope good things continue to happen after reality is over.”
And, if today it inspires many of these talents, it has also been inspired by other drag, such as Verônica, Márcia Pantera and Silvetty Montilla. “All these beauties have always been part of my imagination.”
Pablo and Annitta
For this season, Pabllo promises a new partnership with Anitta. “There are several releases this year and I am ready to reconcile everything with my world tour. I also called Anitta for a new venture. The song is not ready yet, but I hope it will be out later this year,” he reveals. . Together, they have scored hits such as Your face (2017) and Turbo mode (2021), collaboration with Luiza Sonza.
The singer is also planning a new album, still without a release date. “I am very calm about the creative process. We are having a great time of sonic enrichment and why not add these new styles to my work?
