Made in the final part of the pandemic, Mortem Solis faced some ‘difficulties’ in the creative process
Last studio album by Krisiuniconic Brazilian death metal band formed by brothers Max Kolesne (battery), Alex Camargo (vocals, bass) and Moyses Kolesne (vocals, guitar), so far, Mortem Solis faced some obstacles until it was released on July 29, 2022 on digital platforms around the world.
The album began to be worked on during the coronavirus pandemic, when live shows were canceled and the music industry suffered a major blow. As Moyses recalled during an interview with Rolling Stone Brazilthe three could not get together often.
We started as it always was: rehearsing. We have a studio, jamming, me creating some riffs, the guys creating their parts (drums, bass, vocals, lyrics). When we decided to make an album, we were very focused, 100%. It’s not like: ‘Ah, today I made a song, I’m going to send it to you, I’ll do another one in a while.’
As the vocalist explained, when Krisiun starts the idea of making an album, all the members get into that vibe and start to focus on it to “create something that has to do with the moment we live in and share the idea.”
“The biggest challenge was this, because all the problems with the pandemic came. It was post-pandemic because it was already over when we went to record, but there were still restrictions,” he stated. “We didn’t know how the scene itself, the shows, would work, if we would have the opportunity to play again, as it always was. There were several things cancelled, everyone lost money.”
Furthermore, Moyses Kolesne pointed out difficulties that the group did not have on other albums, especially those released in the last decade: “When the album was released, we were going to do another tour, which was cancelled. We were very insecure. So we focused directly on the music: ‘Let’s make an album!’ “
It’s a record, like Max he said, very directly. In it, we changed a little the way we made the last two/three albums, with longer, more epic songs, more solos, etc. It’s an album that came with more anger, even, for – perhaps subconsciously – shorter and more brutal songs, a faster message.

In a press release, the brothers said that Mortem Solis it comes like a white-hot blade from a prefabricated musical culture. It is a fierce and aggressive death metal, however, extremely worked – which can be seen in the tracks “Serpent Messiah”, “Sworn Enemies”, “Swords into Flesh” It is “War Blood Hammer”.
“We had really new ideas coming in Mortem Solis“, it says Moyses Kolesneguitarist of Krisiun. “Maybe because we stopped for two years [devido a pandemia], but we’ve also seen the metal scene become more commercial and fake. As an old band, we keep it real and that’s our mission at the moment – to bring real death metal back.”
Inspired by several extreme metal bands, including Slayer, Venom, Destruction, Motörhead, Morbid Angel and the famous countryman Gravethe band says the new project is more “direct”, which shows the vision of Alex, Moses It is Max about the current heavy metal scene, taking into account the individual evolution of each member as a brother, person and musician.
We cut out everything we considered unnecessary to make it as brutal as possible. Without using a computer or click-tracks – all in the true spirit of death metal. We had a lot of fun together. It was this cohesion that gave us Krisiun’s path, the path we are on and will continue to follow.”
