L’Orville: new horizons is finally out after a long wait Yes Hulu subscribers can enjoy the new episodes of a series that have followed ever since it came out on Fox . Seth MacFarlane’s live show has garnered fans within the star Trek fandom, which compared it to classic franchise episodes such as the next generation. A prominent cast member turns out to have ties to both franchises and Penny Johnson Jerald “hates” the comparisons between the two shows.
Gossipify recently spoke to Penny Johnson Jerald, who plays Dr. Claire Finn orville and played Kasidy Yates-Sisko Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Given his connection to both franchises, I asked him if he felt L’Orville: new horizons managed to escape confrontations with star Trek In this point. The actress shared her views on:
To be honest with you, I thought in season one we could definitely say we were separated from her. Some people would say, ‘Oh, is this Star Trek? Is it a parody? And actually, I hate it when people say it’s a parody. He wasn’t a clown. We were really doing the job. It was like Star Trek in that it is in the future, you have a crew, it is led by a captain and you step into that crew’s life or rip-offs. So I suppose all future ship-type shows would be compared to Star Trek, because they set the standard.
Penny Johnson Jerald did not like the idea that some considered orville a more fun version of star Trek, and it definitely has a point about the Hulu-turned-Fox series that stands out at this point. At the same time he noticed it there are similar elements between the two shows, which I imagine played a big part in the series by attracting star Trek fans over the years.
What orville entered the second season, Penny Johnson Jerald said she saw the similarities between him and star Trek blend even more. The actress talked about the main difference she saw between the two shows that really set them apart, based on her experience of her:
In the second season, I never thought about Star Trek and I’m a Trekkie. I never did it. It seemed that these people were very human, most of them, and the lives and situation they are talking about are not too far from what is happening now. The difference in Star Trek was like “Imagine if it happened”. With The Orville this is happening and will continue to happen in the future, but there is a different attitude towards the same thing that we know. And I think that’s probably why it really stands out from Star Trek.
previous one Star Trek: Deep Space Nine actress and current star of L’Orville: new horizons makes an excellent point. star Trek they tend to attack modern problems with the futuristic mindset of a society that has struggled to overcome many of humanity’s problems while orville one often gets the impression that the people of our time are directly injected into the future.
Of course, just because Penny Johnson Jerald doesn’t appreciate comparisons between the two doesn’t mean star Trek fans won’t see what they love about this franchise orville. The series has an episodic space adventure style that evokes the most classic adventures of star Trekand debuted on Fox shortly before the highly serialized release Star Trek: Discovery.
L’Orville: new horizons This certainly feels like the biggest step in the series in establishing its own sci-fi legacy, though the question still remains as to how long the journey might take. Speaking to cast members, Gossipify learned this in the meantime Season 4 of orville not on the table It looks like audience and fan engagement will play a role in whether it is renewed or canceled.
We’ll have to wait and see if that renewal takes place and if the Seth MacFarlane series will further escape the shadow of other franchises as season 3 continues. L’Orville: new horizons stream new episodes on Hulu (opens in a new tab) Thursday. Tune in to see what adventures the crew will undertake, especially with so much uncharted territory ahead.
