Rio’s famous monument received a screening showing a T-shirt with a message welcoming the singer

Taylor Swift he thanked the fans in his first show in Brazil this Friday 17th, at the Engenhão stadium, in Rio de Janeiro, for the welcome message received from Christ the Redeemer.

“I couldn’t believe it when I saw it”, he said, eliciting screams of elation from the audience, explaining that he really doubted his eyes. “I thought this couldn’t be real. It had to be Photoshopped, you know what I mean?”

“So I understood that you, somehow, had someone put on the Junior Jewels T-shirt, with the words ‘Welcome to Brazil’ on the Christ the Redeemer,” he continued, recalling that the illustration on the Christ refers to the shirt he wore in music video You belong me.

“Did you or didn’t you?” she asked the audience, eliciting more screams. “I feel like I don’t deserve this honor, but it was one of the best things anyone has ever done for me,” she added.

Homage to Christ the Redeemer

Rio’s famous monument received a screening showing a T-shirt with a message welcoming the singer. The tribute was made possible after fans completed a challenge proposed by the rector of the Shrine of Christ the Redeemer, Father Omar, to collect 20,000 panettone and mineral water to help people in situations of vulnerability and social exclusion.

The singer’s fans had been asking for the screening for days and ended up motivating the mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes. “We will have Taylor Swift duly honored as she arrives in Rio de Janeiro. Welcome, Taylor Swift. And be happy Swifties,” he told g1.

In addition to Christ the Redeemer, the Yup Star ferris wheel, located in Porto Maravilha, also joined the wave and paid homage to the singer with its own projection, dedicated to the lyrics of Taylor’s songs and the symbols linked to her albums.

After starting her Brazilian performances this Friday, she will perform two more shows in Rio de Janeiro, on November 18 and 19. Subsequently, the singer will perform in Sao Paulo, on November 24, 25 and 26. All tickets are sold out.
