Cher admits not liking her own voice and surprises by explaining why

Singer is a pop giant and has sold more than 100 million records throughout her career, but there are criticisms of her performance

Cherilyn SarkisianMore known as Cher, has established herself over the years as one of the greatest pop singers of all time. Active since the 1960s, the artist covered various musical genres and sold more than 100 million records, in addition to presenting a TV show that had more than 30 million weekly viewers.

As incredible as it may seem, an artist with such impressive achievements doesn’t like her own voice. In an interview with Papershe said that she finds her voice “weird” and that she does not define herself as a “Cher fan”.

When explaining the reasons, the legendary singer surprised:

“I’ve never liked my voice so much. If I had a choice, I would probably have another, but I had no choice. I have my mother’s voice. She’s weird. She doesn’t look like a man, she doesn’t look like a woman. I’m somewhere more in between.”

Then, Cher said that she believes she has a “weird style” of singing. Being more specific, she said that she doesn’t pronounce the letters “R” when she can’t hold down a note.

“I have a strange style. I do what you do when you can’t hold a note: I don’t pronounce my R’s. I think some consonants are difficult to sing, so I just choose to leave them open.”

Cher doesn’t like it, but people do

Despite not liking her own voice, Cher is not the type to complain. Because there are millions of people around the world who love it. She’s not the one who’s going to object, is she?

Still during the interview, the artist highlighted that there is a slight difference between her voice and her mother’s: “hers is softer, mine has more boldness”. When reflecting on the public’s reaction to her work over the decades, she commented:

“I made so many albums, and some of the ones that I thought were as good as I could like an album of mine were not successful. And then others that I wasn’t as excited about ended up doing it. But my career has been like this [faz um movimento para cima e para baixo].”

Some of his songs that received surprising reception were “Song for the Lonely” and “You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me”. She also highlighted “Walking in Memphis.” She adds:

“I thought Closer to the Truth was a really good album, but it just didn’t happen. Yes, there are songs that I like, but it doesn’t make any difference because it’s not what I like, it’s what people like.”
