Dee Snider’s criticism of Metallica’s current concert model

The band travels the world with the M72 tour, which features two performances in each city, always with a different repertoire

A M72current tour of Metallica, has been hugely successful wherever he goes. In addition to the band’s popularity, the concept behind the tour has been remarkable: two shows are held in each city, always with repertoires that are 100% different from each other and even changing the opening acts.

The group has been careful to spread out its biggest hits across both nights — even though most fans are buying tickets for both dates. Even so, the format has been criticized recently by Dee Snidervocalist of Twisted Sister.

During an interview with Shout It Out Loudcast podcast(via website Igor Miranda), Sniderwho is notorious for not mincing words, even said that he gives credit to Metallica for the initiative. However, he declared that the proposal “only attracts a small portion of the public”.

Snider He did what he loves most: giving his opinion on other people’s work. And he criticized the strategy adopted by the heavy metal giants.

“Most people who go to these shows — not just the Metallicabut bands like Kiss It is Twisted Sister too – it’s there for the hits. The percentage of people who know the less celebrated songs are willing to accept not listening ‘Enter Sandman’ one night represents a very small group.”

Himself Twisted Sister failed when trying a repertoire without hits during their New York Steel reunion show in 2001.

“The other guys wanted to make a setlist with rare songs. They added some things from their bar days to the repertoire. As it was our first show together in years, I didn’t want to cause any problems. But I remember we played these songs and the audience was dead. About eight hands raised in the air, you could count.”

Show without hits is “selfish”

Finally, Dee Snider described it as “selfish” to do a show without his band’s greatest hits.

“It serves a very small part of the public. Unless you’re buying both tickets – and maybe that’s the idea. But the public Metallica it has grown far beyond just hardcore fans. They have successes.”

Another example of a big band was cited by the singer of Twisted Sister. In 2006, the Iron Maiden performed his then new album A Matter of Life and Death in full, which generated outrage among fans.

“They refused to play any of their hits. The public was furious. bruce shouted at the crowd because they weren’t having fun. It was selfish to do that. So much so that afterwards they did another tour with only the biggest hits, they had to make it up to the fans.”
