Even with only two studio albums released in his short career, Olivia Rodrigo is one of the biggest global music hits today. In fact, the singer’s most recent album, titled Guts“tested her confidence.”
During an interview with Variety, Rodrigo commented on the creative process of the studio album, released on September 8, 2023. “The experience tested my confidence and patience,” stated the owner of hits such as “vampire,” “deja vu” It is “drivers license.”
“It taught me some important lessons about songwriting in terms of focusing on your craft rather than just waiting for inspiration to strike,” he continued. “It taught me about the mindset most conducive to writing: You can never sit at the piano and try to write something that everyone will like; that always results in really bad music. It taught me that I write music that I want to hear.”
Right away, Olivia Rodrigo explained how she tries to write a song every day to help with her mental health: “I feel like myself when I write. If I don’t do that, I get depressed. I just write songs to process what happens, whether in my personal life or in my perception of the world.”
