British sextet returns to Brazil after 10 years with a 2h30 performance – and full of classics – next Sunday (3); Here we bring together the setlist, videos and what to expect
O The Cure returns to Brazil next weekend for a unique presentation at the 2023 edition of Primavera Sound. This is the fourth time that the group of Robert Smith performs in Brazil and the first since 2013.
The performance, which closes the program on Sunday, December 3, is part of the tour Shows of a Lost Worldwhich includes classics from the band, as well as new ones, which should be part of their next album, Songs of a Lost Worldannounced in 2019. It’s worth remembering that The Cure hasn’t released any new albums since 4:13 Dreamfrom 2008, and which had been on hiatus for seven years until the tour was announced.
For the São Paulo show, the band must repeat, in 2h30, part of what they have presented in other concerts on the Latin arm of the tour – and what Robert Smith promised via post on his profile on X/Twitterlast June:
FYI WE WILL BE PLAYING MINIMUM 150 MINUTE SETS AT ALL OUR LATAM SHOWS – PLUS YOU GET THE TWILIGHT SAD / JUST MUSTARD / SLOWDIVE… AND SOME OTHER REALLY GOOD ARTISTS TOO… C’MON! X

“For your information, we’ll be playing sets of at least 150 minutes at all of our shows in Latin America – plus you’ll see Twilight Sad, Just Mustard, Slowdive… and other really good artists.”
The Cure setlist
Long sets, in fact, are not exclusive to the performance at Primavera Sound São Paulo for The Cure, who in 2013 played a 3h15 show for more than 30 thousand people in Brazil. In the Argentine edition of the festival, which took place on the 25th, there were 27 tracks – a rock opera that brought together 55 thousand people under the baton of maestro Smith.
There, the sextet divided the presentation into three blocks, which cover the band’s almost half-century history. In the first, the longest, the group looks to the future with “Alone”, which includes tracks from The Cure’s new album. Classics also appear here, such as “In Between Days” and “Just Like Heaven”, a duo that reflects the legacy of the British, as well as the first encore and tracks like “Plainsong” and “Disintegration”.
But it is in the second encore that Smith and company return with full force, with six of The Cure’s renowned tracks, such as “Lullaby”, “Friday I’m in Love”, “Close to Me” and the apotheotic “Boys Don’t Cry.”
According to the website setlist.fm, the most played album is Disintegration (1989), with six tracks, followed by The Head on the Door (1985), with four, the unreleased Songs of a Lost World, Seventeen Seconds (1980) and Wish (1992), with three each, and Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me (1987), with two. The collections Boys Don’t Cry (1980), Curætion‐25: From There to Here From Here to There (2019), Japanese Whispers (1983), Join the Dots: B-Sides and Rarities (2004) and the albums The Top (1984) and Wild Mood Swings (1996) appear with one song each.

The number refers to the North American arm of Shows of a Lost Worldwhich totaled 35 performances across the United States and Canada.
