Singer reflected on her ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake’s group in her new autobiography
The autobiography of Britney Spears, The Woman in Me, has generated quite a bit of controversy since its release. Several excerpts went viral on social media and became hotly debated by fans and even people who only follow the singer’s work from a distance.
The name of Justin Timberlake, also a singer and the artist’s ex-boyfriend, was in most of these passages discussed on the networks. In a specific excerpt, Spears made a pointed criticism of the group that Timberlake was part of, the ‘NSync.

In Britney’s view, the group also formed by Lance Bass, JC Chasez, Joey Fatone It is Chris Kirkpatrick “He tried too hard” to fit in among the black artists of the time, between the end of the 1990s and the beginning of the 2000s. Not by chance, as highlighted by Consequencethe period marked the beginning of hip hop’s “reign” at the top of the American charts.
“’NSync was what people back then called something ‘so pimp.’ They were white kids, but they loved hip hop.”
Then, the pop singer made a comparison with the Backstreet Boysanother notorious boyband of the time.
“To me, that’s what separated them from the Backstreet Boys, who seemed to consciously position themselves as a white group.”
Britney Spears and ‘NSync
Britney Spears’ reflection went to the side of “tell me who you hang out with and I’ll tell you who you are”. The singer highlighted that the members of ‘NSync were seen hanging out with black artists — something that, in her view, was forced.

“’NSync hung out with black artists. Sometimes I thought they tried too hard to fit in. One day, Justin and I were in New York, going to places in the city I had never been to before. Walking towards us was a guy with a huge cord. He was flanked by two giant security guards. Justin got all excited and said loudly, ‘Oh yeah, fo shiz, fo shiz! Ginuwine (R&B singer)! What’s up, bro?’.”
In another more complex part of the work, Spears revealed that she had an abortion during her relationship with Timberlake because he did not want to be a father at that time, at 19 years old. The singer was the target of several criticisms on social media because of this.
To the website TMZ, Lance Bass came to the defense of both Britney and Justin, his groupmate. He defended that the singer can express her version of her own story.
“Everyone has their own opinion, but I feel like the whole world is so full of hate right now that we need to practice a little forgiveness. Britney forgave Justin, so let’s follow what she did. Everyone deserves to tell their story. She did and, you know, I hope the fans can, again, offer some forgiveness.”
