Singer Caetano Veloso has filed a lawsuit against the clothing brand Osklen and its founder, Oskar Metsavaht, for improper use of his image and cultural elements of the Tropicália movement. The company was informed in August this year, but the information only became public this Monday (12/4) through Ancelmo Gois’s article in the newspaper O Globo.
“They used the author’s image and the iconic movement he created to launch and increase sales of a clothing collection under his brand and, in doing so, obtained unfair advantages, illegally exploiting themselves in a notoriously parasitic way,” they say the lawyers for Caetano Veloso.
The artist’s legal team has made several requests, including an injunction for Osklen to withdraw all products from the “Brazilian Soul” line from circulation, as well as requesting the deletion of publications made on social media. The compensation process also includes the payment of R$ 1.3 million for moral and material damages.
The lawsuit brought by Caetano Veloso is pending at the Court of Justice of Rio de Janeiro (TJRJ).
