Bruce Dickinson defended small concert halls and criticized mega-arenas like the Sphere in Las Vegas
Bruce Dickinsonvocalist of Iron Maiden, criticized concert promoters. He reported a conversation he had with a promoter during his last visit to Brazil, when he released his new solo album The Mandrake Project.
According to the artist, the promoter complained about the lack of headliners. Dickinson blamed “big corporations”, which would have “taken everything” to make money and “promote the big headliners, but don’t bring in the bands that create the drama to create the fan base”.
The singer also cited the lack of small music venues, “where bands can just go and perform”, as another factor that prevents new musicians from achieving fame: “It diminishes the roots of people who go out and say, ‘Oh , my God. I went to a live show the other day. Wow, it was cool. It was so much better than sitting in front of a screen…’ And you just need places to do that.”
bruce He also criticized London’s plans to build a mega-arena like the Sphere in Las Vegas: “What a waste of time. A waste of time and money. It would be much better to convert half a dozen old pubs into locations and tell young people: ‘Hey, there’s a free venue. Go play.'”
