Lost Bob Marley Song “Selassie Is The Chapel” Released

Song was first recorded in 1968, but never officially published

A new unreleased single from Bob Marley was released more than 40 years after the death of one of the greatest icons of reggae, ska and rocksteady. Titled “Selassie is the Chapel”the song was made available last Friday (8) on all digital platforms.

First recorded in 1968 but never officially published, the song is now being released on the original label of MarleyJAD Records, along with a limited edition 7″ vinyl made in just 2,000 copies.

This recording is part of the material resulting from Marley sessions that were produced exclusively for the label in the late 60s and early 70s.

The highly spiritual and personal track pays tribute to Haile Selassiethe important personality of the Rastafari movement and Ethiopian emperor, of which Marley was a committed member. The lyrics of the song were written by one of the mentors of Marley, Mortimer Plannowho met Selassie when he visited Jamaica in 1966.

In a statement, the JAD Records said the release comes “as a message of peace to the world, at a time of global turbulence”, inviting listeners to reflect on the words of Bob Marley at the end of the year festivities.
