During the creation of 1989 (Taylor’s Version), Jack Antonoff worked as a producer, a role he also held on the original 2014 album
Known for extensive musical collaboration with Taylor Swiftthe producer Jack Antonoff worked with the American singer on several projects in 2023, such as the re-recording 1989 (Taylor’s Version) — and he recalled what the creative process was like.
It is worth remembering how Antonoff worked as producer of the original version of 1989launched in 2014. During an interview with Vulturethe artist commented on several career projects, and recalled the “hardest part” of reworking the album’s songs.
“I don’t work with any soft synthesizers, so everything is a sound made in the room,” he said. “The funny thing is, you can’t remember the sounds. So all the guys in the Bleachers They helped a lot with these things.”
“It’s become a really fun project for me and the band,” the producer continued. “It was like, ‘Okay, Mikey [Freedom Hart]here are the tracks from JunoDo your best. sean [Hutchinson], here’s the battery, see what you can do.’ And then I’ll have X amount of tracks that are just room sounds.”
The internet was really interested in what sounded like the sound of a seagull in ‘Is It Over Now?‘ It was really fun, because it was all these analog instruments that we know and love.
Right away, Jack Antonoff commented on how to work in 1989 (Taylor’s Version) it was like “finding an old diary” and talked more about this topic: “There are so many things in so many of these sessions that I thought, ‘Oh, you freak.’ I would do little layers, then, because you go through phases, and that made me feel really good.”
“That younger version of me that was accumulating sh*t, I mean,’Out Of The Woods‘ It’s like a kitchen sink. That’s the glory: As someone who hasn’t really had any success as a producer, there was no reason for me to accumulate all that sh*t unless it just gave me a lot of joy,” he added.
And he made a strange, confusing symphony and I love it to this day.
