Shakira was honored with a 6.5-meter statue in the city of Barranquilla, where the singer was born in Colombia. The sculpture made of bronze with some fragments of aluminum features one of the artist’s most famous steps, in which she shakes her hips with her hands above her head.
“A heart that composes, hips that do not lie, an unparalleled talent, a voice that moves crowds and bare feet that march for the good of youth and humanity,” reads the inscription on the base of the sculpture.
The Colombian’s parents, William Mebarak and Nidia Ripoll, attended the presentation event of the tribute created by Yino Márquez. The monument was installed on the waterfront near the Madgalena River.
“I thank the sculptor Yino Márquez and the students of the district art school for this demonstration of the enormous artistic talent of the people of my land,” Shakira thanked on her Instagram profile.
