Bassist highlighted two older songs and the four tracks made available since his return to the band
It is not possible to say that the Armas e Rosas has such an extensive musical catalogue. In almost 40 years of activity, the hard rock band has released only six studio albums — one of which, The Spaghetti Incident?is covers, while there is another, GN’R Liessometimes being characterized as a mini-album due to its 33 minutes in length.
Still, several songs can be defined as hits. And it’s no surprise that the group has so much fun performing these compositions on stage to the point of performing very long performances, reaching almost three hours in length.
Aware of this, the bassist Duff McKagan was invited to share which song from Guns He likes playing live the most. The revelation was made in an interview with the program NowListenfrom AXS TV, and transcribed by Loudwire.
In fact, two tracks were cited by McKagan. One of them stands out because it was his favorite in the band’s early days: “Rocket Queen”, responsible for closing the group’s debut album, Appetite for Destruction.
My favorite song to play in the 1980s was ‘Rocket Queen’ because we built this different rhythm and did all these cool connecting parts that tied this song together. Axl (Rosevocalist) wrote some really cool lyrics for it, making it a mind-blowing kind of song.
Still in his statement, the musician highlighted the importance of Appetite for Destruction for his life and that of his colleagues. Mentioned by him modestly, the work has sold more than 30 million copies, making it one of the biggest best sellers in the history of rock and music in general.
O Appetiteit was this little record we made. It would be for us, our friends and some rockers. We were going in and recording songs that we created for ourselves and that some people in the clubs really liked. So ‘Rocket Queen’ felt like the next step, kind of a next level song, to me.
Duff’s favorite Guns song
Despite mentioning “Rocket Queen” fondly, Duff McKagan pointed out that, in the following years, his favorite to perform live would be another: “November Rain”, a ballad of large proportions available on the first volume of the albums Use Your Illusion.
Then you fast forward to 2016… I’ve always loved playing ‘November Rain’, because it’s always a great moment. Axl sit down and you see all the lighters appearing. The soil of slash (guitarist) is something great.
Finally, the bassist pointed out that he loves playing the most current songs live Guns. In recent years, they have released four singles on digital platforms.
I also like playing the few new songs we have – ‘Hard Skool’, ‘Absurd’, ‘The General’ and ‘Perhaps’.
Slash’s favorite
Curiously, slash choose another song Armas e Rosas for the title. During a question and answer session in 2014 (via Igor Miranda website), the guitarist mentioned “Paradise City”, another track from the album Appetite for Destructionas his favorite to play live.
There can be any number of songs on any given night that you’re really excited to play, but I think ‘Paradise City’ has always been my favorite rock ‘n’ roll song to play live. It just works every time, has the right rhythm and the right energy. It’s always been one of my favorites.
