Eminem discussed how he incorporates personal experiences into his own songs
Eminem admitted that rapping about mental health and addiction was “therapeutic.” In an interview with Sway In The Morning (via NME), the musician opened up about his substance abuse and mental health issues throughout his career, explaining how talking about it changed his life.
“Well, I think one of the best things about rap is that, you know, you can put a lot of your life into the lyrics. I was just trying to figure out how to expand on it and I kind of lost it,” he explained. “It’s therapeutic and it’s you, it’s how it’s always been for me. But with this record, with this new album Boogie, the title, everything is f*cking good.”
Rapper added: “And watching him just get better and better and better is amazing too. And he had so much of his life wrapped up in that record. Do you know what I mean? Like, I think this is therapeutic.”
Eminem admits to ‘stealing black music’ compared to Elvis
Eminem launched “The King And I” as part of the film’s soundtrack Elvis – biopic of the singer – last Thursday, 16th. The track has the participation of CeeLo Green and brings verses about the rapper’s career.
In addition to comparing with Presley – “I’m about to explain the parallels between me and Elvis,” says in one of the verses – Eminem admits to stealing part of black music by choosing to rap, indicating a similar attitude of the American rock icon.
“I stole black music, yeah, maybe I used it / As a tool to fight kids at school / Kids would come back with shit* from the bathroom / Now I call haters a bidet / ‘Cause they get mad that they can’t do shit,” completed (via NME).
