The artist sued the venue for non-payment for use of the image in October 2023

The Judiciary of the State of Rio de Janeiro has ruled that a bar in Rio, named after the singer Alcione, will be closed if the owners of the place do not provide an official accounting. The artist sued the venue for non-payment for use of the image in October 2023.

Alcione granted the use of the name in 2020 on the condition that he participate in the establishment’s profits. However, the singer does not agree with the company’s responsibility and claims that direct payments are late.

For this reason, the artist accuses the entrepreneur Vinícius Correa of not having paid the royalties for the image used in “Bar Alcione, A Casa da Marrom”. The factory is located in Barra da Tijuca, in the capital of Rio de Janeiro.

In December last year, an injunction had already decided that the bar run by Correa would have to stop using Marrom’s name on any virtual or physical channel, under a daily fine of R$5,000. However, the owners did not comply with the court order and did not respond to the subpoenas.

Judge André LM Marques ordered the daily fine to be increased to R$10,000 and decided that if the owners are not located within three attempts, the establishment will have to be sealed by the courts.

Alcione’s office has not yet commented on the situation.
