Universal Pictures has acquired the rights to the autobiography “Scar Tissue”, written by Anthony Kiedis, lead singer of the band Red Hot Chili Peppers. The film project is in the early stages of development and will be produced by Brian Grazer, through Imagine Entertainment, with the participation of Kiedis himself and Guy Oseary.
“Scar Tissue” offers a candid profile of Kiedis, highlighting him as an artist, drug addict and leader of one of the most iconic bands in the world. The book takes a raw look at an unusual father-son story set in the Los Angeles punk scene of the ’70s and ’80s and examines, without judgment, how Kiedis’ experiences shaped the music of the Chili Peppers.
It is imagined that the production will focus on the singer’s youth.
Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Kiedis moved to Los Angeles around age 12, where his early exposure to Los Angeles’ vibrant music scene laid the foundation for his career. In 1983, he co-founded the Red Hot Chili Peppers with guitarist Hillel Slovak, bassist Flea (Michael Balzary) and drummer Jack Irons. The band’s fusion of funk, punk and rock, combined with Kiedis’ energetic and provocative stage presence, quickly earned them a devoted fan base. But the Slovakian’s death from an overdose in 1988 left a huge mark on the singer, making him reevaluate his lifestyle.
