“Schmigadon!” it was canceled after two seasons

Apple TV+ has canceled “Schmigadoon!” after two seasons. The end of the musical series, inspired by Broadway productions, was announced on social media by its creator, Cinco Paul (also creator of Minions).

According to him, the scripts for the third season were already ready and would contain 25 new songs.

“I’m sad to share that Apple will not be moving forward with season 3 of ‘Schmigadoon!’. The season is already written (including 25 new songs), but unfortunately that won’t happen. That’s life. I want to thank everyone involved in the series, the our incredible cast, crew and writers, our wonderful supporters at Broadway Video, Universal and Apple, for everything they did to make this happen. It’s a miracle we got two seasons, honestly, and I’m so grateful for” , Paul wrote on Instagram.

Despite the sadness over the decision, the showrunner revealed that ‘Schmigadoon!’ he may survive, but gave no details.

“To all the fans of the show out there, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your love and support means so much, and the fact that you connect with our show, which brings you joy, means the world to me. This is news hard to swallow, but the optimist in me believes that this will not be the end of ‘Schmigadoon’… and maybe it will even be a happy beginning.”

What was the series like?

The first series from Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio, writer-creators of “Despicable Me” (2010) and “Pets: Life of Pets” (2016), the series followed a couple in crisis, played by Keegan-Michael Key (” The Graduation Party”) and Cecily Strong (“Saturday Night Live”), who, during a walk in the forest, finds herself in a magical place where everyone sings, dances and acts as if they were in a classic musical – that is, happy all the time time.

The second season picked up the plot after the couple eloped, only to realize that normal life had lost its charm. Determined to return to “Schmigadoon!”, they try to find the lost land. Only instead of in the universe of classic musicals they end up in “Schmicago!”, a place of 1970s musicals, where happy endings were much rarer.

The cast of the attraction also included Ariana DeBose (who won the Oscar for “Love, Sublime Love”), Dove Cameron (“Descendants”), Jaime Camil (“Jane the Virgin”), Kristin Chenoweth (“Pushing Daisies” ), Alan Cumming (“Instinct”), Jane Krakowski (“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”), Ann Harada (“Smash”), Martin Short (“Only Murders in the Building”), Aaron Tveit (“Secrets of Heaven”/Graceland ), Tituss Burgess (“Indestructible Kimmy Schmidt”) and Patrick Page (“In a New York Neighborhood”).
