Maria Rita published an emotional text in honor of the singer this Friday 19th, receiving the affection of the fans
Maria Rita paid tribute to her mother, Elis Regina, this Friday 19th, the 42nd anniversary of the death of the MPB icon. The singer published a montage made by a fan showing the two adults side by side with her: Elis died when her youngest was only 4 years old. “19/01 is never easy for me. I retreat into my thoughts, desires and questions… It’s the day I talk to her the most, the day I cry the most for her absence. I never wake up normal,” he wrote.
The singer confessed that she has gone through deep professional problems and, in these moments, it is when she feels the absence of her mother the most. “In the past I felt angry (not because she died, but because I didn’t have her to talk to…). This year I’m tired and sad. Not me, but my soul. And she wanted to never be heavy. .. I still haven’t been able to make his dream come true,” he reveals.
“I look at her smile in photos, the love people still feel for her, our physical similarities and things in fan montages – and it brings so much light into my life that I continue to persist… we will be light, my mother… we will be”, concludes the singer.
Maria Rita received messages of affection from friends like Astrid Fontenelle AND Pericles. The samba singer revealed that he was struck by the photo of the two: “I was scared when I saw it. We love you on a level you can’t even imagine,” he wrote.
Sing carefully
Maria Rita spoke about his relationship with his mother’s songs, Eli Reginain an interview with Fatima Bernardes last year. The artist revealed that singing Elis’ repertoire is a way she has found to “take care” of her mother. “I had the feeling that I didn’t have (and don’t have) the ability to take care of my mother. At some point, we take care of our parents, right? And I don’t. And then I thought I took care of her, I sang for her. Which is the only thing I know how to do best in life. Like bringing my ‘veinha’ to the stage,” he explained.
Elis and Tom
Even after a four-decade absence, Elis’ music continues to resonate. Last year, the documentary Elis and Tom – It really had to be with you, by Roberto de Oliveira, attracted fans of the two great names in music to Brazilian cinemas. It was also well received at national and international festivals. So much so that the film has applied for a place at the 2024 Oscars.
Elis and Tom tells, through archive images, the meeting of Elis Regina and Tom Jobim in a studio in Los Angeles, in 1974. They met to record the album which became one of the greatest classics of Brazilian popular music.
The film will bear even more fruit. In an interview with Estadão, director Roberto de Oliveira said that the material used in the film, and recorded by him in 1974, will give rise to an exhibition that will begin in 2024, when the album turns 50.
