The horror genre has seen an exciting resurgence lately, much to the delight of fans. Blumhouse is behind some of the greatest original concepts to hit theaters in the past decade, including Scott Derrickson’s. Complaint with Ethan Hawke . These two have collaborated again the black phonewith Hawke explaining to Gossipify why he had so much fun terrorizing his young co-stars.
Although Ethan Hawke was the hero of Complaintappears inside the black phone as the masked villain known as The Grabber. I have had the privilege of speaking with Scott Derrickson and his cast before the premiere of the film, where I asked Hawke what it was like to terrorize his young co-stars while filming. As you can see in the video, she explained how it actually was a blessing, saying:
I was a little nervous when I got to the set. What will it be like to try to terrify this young man and all? But it might surprise people to find that it was a lot of fun. Because children love a good scary story. Love. “I’ve been trapped in the prison for days” and they enter. And it’s a bit contagious. And all acting ceases to be pretentious or important or anything other than a feeling of joy. And so the emotions can be played with pleasure.
Talk about a breath of fresh air. While Ethan Hawke was supposed to be a terrifying presence in The Grabber’s cell, it seems like he felt more like a game than a job. And it’s because of the excitement and passion of her various young co-stars during filming. the black phone. There was clearly some fun on set, despite the film’s dark (and sometimes otherworldly) material.
The Grabber claimed the most kills during its 102 minute run time the black phone (which goes really fast), but the main character in the film is Finney played by Mason Thames. He’s so amazing, he was the kindest person ever. Even after a super tough scene, a scary scene of him in the mask and me in the basement, I was just talking to everyone on set with the mask on. He is like a normal person. He is having a great time and they are terrified for his life. He is an amazing person and I am very lucky to be able to work with him.
How sweet it is? While the young cast of the black phone I had a lot of serious stuff to deal with, luckily it seems like Ethan Hawke was great working with Ethan Hawke.
