Mexican producer Ocesa reported this Friday (26/1) that Morrissey’s tour of Latin America has been cancelled. The announcement came just hours after the singer canceled shows that were due to take place this weekend in the United States.
Morrissey will perform two shows in California to celebrate 20 years of “You Are the Quarry,” the first in Anaheim this Friday and the second in Los Angeles on Saturday (1/27). The cancellation of these shows was announced Thursday evening (25/1), when the singer said that, due to “unforeseen circumstances”, he would not be able to perform this weekend.
According to a note shared on social media, the singer has been suffering from “physical exhaustion for which he is receiving medical treatment and has been advised to rest and remain in Zurich, Switzerland.” Other details were not revealed.
Free Pass, producer of the presentation in Brazil, is expected to provide guidance on refunds soon.
Cancellation history
The former Smiths singer has a history of canceling shows at the last minute and has frustrated fans around the world due to many “unforeseen circumstances.” She had already canceled two shows in Brazil last year, citing “health issues” to move shows in February to Sao Paulo and Brasilia. But they have been canceled again, for the second time, with the announcement this Friday.
Prior to that, the British artist had also left New Zealand and Australian fans in the lurch in early December, as well as canceling four shows on the Asian leg of his tour in November, citing “technical difficulties”.
The website WeHeartMusic found that Morrissey has had 339 shows cancelled, postponed or cut short over the course of his career.
