‘I’m Jus Ken’, sung by Ryan Gosling and produced by Mark Ronson, nominates for a Grammy
Mark Ronson “I’d love to make more music” with Ryan Gosling. “I’m Just Ken”, performed by the actor, surpassed Dua Lipa It is Billie Eilish — also present on the soundtrack of Barbie — and won one Critics Choice Award. The track is also up for Best Original Song at the Oscar and the Best Song Composed for Visual Media in Grammy.
“We certainly had a lot of fun, especially creating the Christmas version that we did. Because we had recorded that song, and then I, in the first case, recorded a vocal with him,” he said. Ronson about the Christmas version of the song (via NME).
“And then I probably hadn’t spoken to him for about a year until the movie was being finished. I said, ‘Hey, we finished the cut, actually, the slash is touching her. I just want to make sure you’re happy before we mix.’ And he really loved it.”
“And then we started talking over the last few months, just talking about different types of music and things that he loved, like Scott Walker and stuff like that, and I thought, ‘Well, we should do a version of ‘Ken’ that does something a little different, like a different arrangement.’ Because, you know, there was a lot of talk about the 1980s power ballad and it has all these things, but I think part of my pride as a songwriter was proving that it wasn’t just that,” he continued.
Then the Ryan…he has incredible taste and great ideas, and he’s an extremely funny and talented musician and singer. We did this version and then we started meeting, and sure enough, he would love to make more music. I think it would be great. And we’ve already talked a little about this.
