Grammy 2024: Brazilians do not receive the award, but Astrud Gilberto is remembered


The name of the singer, who died in 2023, was mentioned in an appearance on In Memoriam

The delivery of Grammys 2024 will take place on Sunday 4th (to see the complete list of winners and nominees). Some Brazilians competing for the prize: Ivan Lins, Eliana Elias, Luciana Souza and the Current trio, formed by musicians Fabio Torres, Paulo Paulelli and Edu Ribeiro. None of them, however, managed to achieve victory.

They were all competing in the Best Latin Jazz Album category. The best performer was the duo formed by Miguel Zenón, from Puerto Rico, and Luis Perdomo, from Venezuela, for their work on El Arte Del Bolero Vol. 2. Luciana and the Trio competed with Cometa, Ivan Lins with My Heart Speaks, in collaboration with the Tbilisi Symphony Orchestra (Georgia) and Eliane with Quietude. North American Bobby Sanabria completed the list with Vox Humana.

Another mention of Brazil appeared during the In memoriamwith tribute to the artists who died in the last year, when Astrud Gilberto was remembered. His voice won the Grammy for Best Recording in 1965, for The girl from Ipanema. She also competed for best singer at the time, but was defeated by Barbra Streisand. Astrud died on June 5, 2023, aged 83.
