Lira Filmes has released the trailer for “Nada SER como Antes”, a documentary about the creation of “Clube da Esquina”, considered the best Brazilian album of all time.
The production explains the context of the album’s creation with previously unpublished archive images, presents performances of the time and dialogues with the musicians involved in the recording, with emphasis on Milton Nascimento and Lô Borges, adding stories and curiosities about the conception of the album that revolutionized MPB in Brazil.era.
The best Brazilian album
The double album released in 1972, the result of the collaboration between Milton Nascimento, Lô Borges and a group of talented musicians from Minas Gerais, ended up becoming one of the most influential albums in Brazilian music, mixing elements of folk, rock, jazz and Latin music with the rich tradition of MPB (Brazilian Popular Music).
The genesis of the production were informal musical meetings that took place in the Santa Tereza neighborhood of Belo Horizonte, where artists such as Beto Guedes, Toninho Horta and the brothers Márcio and Lô Borges met to share ideas and create music. From these meetings was born “Clube da Esquina”, a name later adopted for the album, a poetic and sonic journey that reflects on friendship, love, nostalgia and social issues.
Songs like “Tudo Que Você Podia Ser”, “O Trem Azul”, “Cravo e Canela” and “Nuvem Cigana” are just a few examples of the musical diversity and lyrical richness found on the album, chosen in 2022 as the best Brazilian album from the Discoteca Básica podcast, which listened to the opinions of 162 experts: journalists, YouTubers, podcasters, musicians, retailers and producers.
The documentary written and directed by Ana Rieper (“Vou Rifar meu Coração”) has already been screened at the Rio Film Festival and at the Mostra de São Paulo, and its commercial premiere is scheduled in theaters on February 29.
